People who delay for the perfect time, hold off launching because their interviews aren’t perfect never wanted to launch in the first place. This is a long-haul. Look at Jeopardy. When they started over 30 years ago, they had bugs to work out. They let the show evolve. Same with any of our beloved shows we binge. Everyone gets more comfortable. Editors get better. We end up getting better guests after we’ve been doing this a while. There is always room for improvement, as each host is human. Yay! Don’t let that stop you from launching. If you have your ideas, your guests, your team, your timeline, just do it already.
But when is the perfect time to launch?
- When you have a few episodes under your belt and can launch.
- When you have tested your subscription process and drips if you choose to set those up.
- When you have Google Analytics in place and are ready to track progress from Day 1.
- When you are able to share this out to all of your following and ASK them to LISTEN, SUBSCRIBE, RATE, REVIEW.
That’s the time. if you wait for something else to happen somewhere, blue moon, Black Friday, you are setting yourself up to miss a window and support your excuse to delay.
The same goes for each episode.
We can get mired in the tweaking of elements no one will EVER notice. An extra pause, a breath. Think about it. Each time you go through all these tiny edits, you still have to listen again ALL THE WAY THROUGH to make sure you didn’t shift anything or stack anything in the timeline. That time could have been spent promoting your podcast. Let it go! Do it better next episode. Truly.
But, just because you are willing to launch, warts and all, don’t forget to go back and review what you have published.
- How did it go?
- Did anyone listen?
- Can you ask for HONEST feedback from friends, colleagues, strategic partners, team members?
- Ask for feedback from people who are your target audience.
- Ask for their input for topics, what went well, what needs improving.
- Then, DO IT. This is a short post. Straightforward. Stop reading. Go prepare to launch!
If you are stuck and need help, let us know. We’re happy to help you leave the nest of pre-production and launch! We’ll even hold your hand for a while, or forever.
