Recently, a guest on one of our shows was unhappy with her appearance. She wasn’t prepared and there was no saving it, even with the best edits. This show was over 1,000 edits in a 25 minute episode. She requested that the host remove the episode. The episode had already been promoted on social, the apps were all updated. Cloudflare to the rescue.

Our podcasts all have custom domains. All of the domains are set up in Cloudflare for about 20 reasons. They have a beta feature with 301 redirects. This is super handy. We do not control Podbean’s DNS and would not be able to handle it there, but because we have a custom domain for our show, rather than yourshowname.podbean.com, we are able to utilize the 301 redirect feature.

Within a minute we redirected that episode to a recent great episode. We still had to edit our blog post from the playlist, posts on LinkedIn, but we were able to take care of those changes within minutes to appease the guest.  This made the host happy.

If they redo the episode, we can create a fresh url episode and change the 301 to go to that, whenever it happens.
