In this episode, Chris and Corey discuss the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and its potential impact on the startup ecosystem and the broader economy. Chris explains that the venture capital industry is important for occasionally making an important company, but most of what Silicon Valley funds is R&D for unnamed corporate investors. He thinks debt will become more popular in the future because it has advantages for both parties, and he expects debt to be democratized more. Then, Deborah Fell welcomes Herby Duverné, a successful real estate developer and founder of Rise Development and Construction. Duverne shares his story of growing up in Haiti with a single mother who worked long hours in a factory to provide for her children. He credits his mother’s optimism and hope for his success in life, along with his ability to turn setbacks into opportunities. Duverne also discusses how he met his business partner, who was once a dissatisfied client, but through transparency and authenticity, they built a trusting relationship and formed Rise Development and Construction. The company has since grown to a 2.7 billion dollar development firm in just three years. Listen to the conversation with Tessa Burg and Limore Shur where they ponder the metaverse right now to many people does sound like Buzz because they’re seeing hype like meta Facebook really desperately trying to grab their audience and move them to this place that they know is valuable. Is this even going to happen? So they’re making huge bets. I mean, they’re throwing billions of dollars and the tens of billions of dollars away because they’re trying to get to where this growth is happening that most people aren’t seeing. Finally, Fr. Bill asks us, “We all experience doubts; it’s part of being human. How we handle our doubt is the key: doubts can diminish faith, but they can also be the catalyst to increase faith. But how do we move forward and have faith beyond our doubts?” NEXT WEEK: SIMITREE HEALTH 360 LAUNCHES! We almost made it this week but we didn’t want to do it with any of the toppings missing from the sundae! You’ll love these conversations.
